Baker, Wilson and Litten Highlight Strong Finish at Fred Hardy Invitational

RICHMOND, Va. - Sophomore Eric Baker (Montoursville, Pa./Montoursville) took first place in the 400 meter dash with a time of 48.81 seconds and freshman James Wilson (Ephrata, Pa./Ephrata) took second place in the 100 meter dash with a time of 11.21 seconds to highlight a banner day for the Shippensburg University men's track and field team.
Two other runners finished in the Top-5 for Shippensburg in the 400 meter dash to go along with Baker's first-place finish. Senior Kenrick Marsh (Norristown, Pa./Norristown) and sophomore Maurice Barbour (Chambersburg, Pa./Chambersburg) took fourth and fifth place with times of 49.73 and 49.89 seconds respectively to give Shippensburg three of the top-five finishes in the event.
Sophomore Troy Litten (Gettysburg, Pa./Gettysburg) took second place in the pole vault with a toss of 4.30 meters to give Shippensburg an additional second-place finish. Junior Ryan Koppenheffer (Harrisburg, Pa./Central Dauphin) took ninth place in the 100 meter dash with a time of 11.45 seconds.
The Red Raiders dominated the 200 meter dash, with seven runners finishing in the top-14 places. Senior Steve Huffman (Montoursville, Pa./Montoursville) had the best finish for Shippensburg, taking fourth place with a time of 22.77 seconds. Koppenheffer finished in 6th place with a time of 22.86 seconds, while three runners took ninth through eleventh place.
Sophomore Jamal James (Harrisburg, Pa./Central Dauphin) finished in ninth place with a time of 23.00 seconds while freshmen James Wilson (Ephrata, Pa./Ephrata) and Sean Cohick (Lansdale, Pa./North Penn) took 10th and 11th place with identical times of 23.01 seconds.
Junior Bernie Richards (York Haven, Pa./Northeastern York) followed up his first place finish yesterday with a third place finish in the 110 meter hurdles with a time of 15.50 seconds. Freshman Anthony Hankerson (Chambersburg, Pa./Chambersburg) took seventh place in the event with a time of 16.26 seconds.
In the 100 meter relay event, Shippensburg's squad earned second place with a time of 42.09 seconds. The relay team from Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU) finished in first with a time of 41.67 seconds.
In the discus throw, sophomore Mark Anderson (Nanty Glo, Pa./Central Cambria) was one of three Top-10 finishers for Shippensburg Anderson took sixth place with a heave of 43.32 meters, while freshman David Green (Waynesboro, Pa./South Western) finished in seventh place with a toss of 42.08 meters. Sophomore Jarrod Shull (Landisburg, Pa./West Perry) earned a ninth place finish with a launch of 40.51 meters.
The Shippensburg University men's track and field team will return to action next weekend on Saturday when the Red Raiders travel to the University of Maryland to participate in the Terrapin Invitational.
