RICHMOND, Va. -
Hoping to continue their success from their first outdoor meet of the season, the Shippensburg University Men’s Track and Field Team had another solid showing at the Fred Hardy Invitational, held Friday and Saturday afternoon at the University of Richmond.

Keeping up with last week, senior Bernie Richards (York Haven/Northeastern York) took first place in the 400-meter hurdles, clocking in at 54.55 seconds. His time was just short of the meet record held by Shippensburg University alumni Mark Piccolo, who ran the event in 53.91 seconds in 1995. Two Shippensburg runners rounded out the top ten; sophomore Mike Murphy (Reamstown/Cocalico) finished ninth with a time of 56.79 seconds, and freshman Ryan Drezewicki (Selinsgrove/Selinsgrove) clocked in at 57.26 seconds to take tenth.

Shippensburg participated in the 3,000-meter steeplechase, with seniors Allen Hanslovan (Morrisdale/West Branch) and Stephen LoBianco (Dover/Northeastern York) finishing at seventh and tenth, respectively. Hanslovan clocked in at 9:43.45 and LoBianco at 9:54.13.

The Red Raiders continued their success in field events, as sophomore Shaun Minnich (Churchville/Council Rock South) produced his second top finish in the shot put with a distance of 14.96 meters. Junior Mark Anderson (Nanty Glo/Central Cambria) had two second-place finishes, in the shot put (14.73 meters) and the hammer throw (52.58 meters).

Also finishing strong was sophomore David Green (Waynesboro/South Western), holding fifth in the shot put (13.95 meters) and third in the hammer throw (50.14 meters).

Sophomore Sean Cohick (Newville/Big Spring) finished second in the long jump with a distance of 6.92 meters. Joining him in the top ten for the event were freshmen Mike Tomasco (Upper Darby/Monsignor Bonner) in sixth with a distance of 6.70 meters, and Mike Edwards (Bethlehem/Liberty) in ninth with a distance of 6.53 meters.

Next Saturday, the Red Raiders head to the University of Maryland to compete in the Terrapin Invitational. Start time will be 11:00 a.m.
