Richards, Cohick Winners on First Day at Fred Hardy Invitational

RICHMOND,
Va. - Junior Bernie Richards (Yorkhaven, Pa./Northeastern
York) and
freshman Sean Cohick (Lansdale, Pa./North Penn) each won events to lead the
Shippensburg University men's track and field team on the first day of competition
at the Fred Hardy Invitational Friday afternoon hosted by the University of
Richmond.
Cohick won his second collegiate event, capturing first-place in the long jump
with a leap of 6.72 meters, 0.07 meters farther than Shadion Buckley of the
University of Virginia who came in second and 0.23 meters better than Brandon
Argro of Virginia Commonwealth University in third. Cohick also took first
in the long jump back on December 9 at the DuCharme Invitational hosted by
Dickinson College.
Meanwhile, Richards captured his third individual championship this year by
finishing first in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 54.04 seconds, 0.54
ahead of Kyle Miller from Virginia Commonwealth. During the indoor season,
Richards won two titles in the 55-meter hurdles at the Susquehanna Open and
the PSAC East Championship. Last week, he finished fourth in the 400-meter
hurdles at the Ram Invitational with a time of 56.57 seconds.
Senior Matthew Werner (Lancaster, Pa./Conestoga Valley) turned in the team's
only other top-five performance on Friday, finishing fifth in the 10,000-meter
run in a time of 33:02.12.
Sophomore Maurice Barbour (Chambersburg,
Pa./Chambersburg),
freshman David Green (Waynesboro, Pa./Southwestern), sophomore Mark
Anderson (Nanty Glo, Pa./Central Cambria) and senior Matt
Rudderow (Mechanicsburg, Pa./Mechanicsburg) all had top-10 finishes for the Red Raiders. Green totaled
two top-10 finishes in the shot put and weight throw.
Competition at the Fred Hardy Invitational continues on Saturday beginning
at 9:00 a.m., with the men's and women's discus.
