Three Red Raiders Take Home First Place Finishes at Early Bird Invite

RADFORD, Va. - With the indoor season over, the Shippensburg University
men’s track and field team began its outdoor season with a strong showing
at the Early Bird Invite held at Radford University on Saturday.
While several of Shippensburg’s regulars were resting, other athletes
took the spotlight. Senior Bernie Richards (York Haven/Northeastern
York) finished first in both the 110-meter and 400-meter hurdles, with respective
times of 15.0 and 54.6 seconds. Junior Eric Baker (Montoursville/Montoursville) was tops in the 400-meter dash, clocking in at an even 51 seconds.
As usual, the Red Raiders looked their most dominant in the field events.
Sophomore Shaun Minnich (Churchville/Council Rock South) finished first in
the shot put with a distance of 14.93 meters. Sophomore David Green
(Waynesboro/South Western) competed thrice, taking second behind Minnich in the shot put, second
in the discus throw, and third in the hammer throw.
Junior Jarrod Shull (Landisburg/West Perry) and freshmen Christian
D’Annibale
(Shippensburg/Shippensburg) and Sean Shepardson (Telford/Souderton) finished
second, third, and fourth in the javelin throw, while freshman Mike
Edwards (Bethlehem/Liberty) took second in the long jump with a distance of 6.79
meters.
The Red Raiders will have another return to action this Friday in Richmond,
Virginia. The Fred Hardy Invitational start time will be announced in the
future.
