SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. - Shippensburg track and field senior Nate
Reider (York/Dallastown) earned a fifth-place finish in the weight throw at the
2007 NCAA Division II Track and Field Indoor Championships, which was held
at the Reggie Lewis Center in Boston.
Reider, who had captured the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference title
and set the school record in the indoor weight throw earlier this season,
posted a throw of 18.75 meters, which was just short of his record throw
of 18.76 meters. Reider‚s mark was good enough for fifth place. Ashland's
Kibwe Johnson took first with a record throw of 25.08 meters. Johnson's
teammates Robert Klenk and Bryan Vickers finished second and third.
Shippensburg's other national qualifier, junior Jamal James (Harrisburg/Central
Dauphin), posted a time of 22.81 seconds in the 200-meter dash prelims, which
was good for 13th, but just outside the qualifying mark for the finals. Like
Reider, James was the PSAC champion in the 200 this season, and his time
of 21.94 set a new conference record.
Reider's fifth-place finish earned Shippensburg four points, putting
them in 14th-place in the team standings after one day of competition. Ashland
stood in first place with 24 points.
The Shippensburg track and field squad will open its outdoor schedule on
Mar. 15 at the 49er Classic at the University of North Carolina Charlotte.
