Mar. 6, 2007
SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. - Shippensburg University track and field sophomore Jamal James (Harrisburg/Central Dauphin) and senior Nate Reider (York/Dallastown) will be competing in the NCAA Division II Indoor Championships at the Reggie Lewis Center in Boston, Mass., on Mar. 10-11.
James, who won both the 200-meter dash and the 55-meter dash at the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Indoor Championships, qualified ninth for the NCAA Championships in the 200. It will be his first appearance at the national championships. At the PSAC Indoor Championships, James posted a conference record-setting time of 21.94 seconds, snapping the previous record of 22.12 seconds to qualify.
James is one of only two runners from the PSAC to qualify in the event. Bradley Rager of California (Pa.) qualified 23rd. The top qualifying time of 21.21 seconds was set by St. Augustine's Philippe DeRosier.
Reider will also be making his first appearance at the NCAA Indoor Championships after qualifying eighth for the weight throw with a toss of 18.76 meters. That toss was recorded at the PSAC Indoor Championships and earned Reider a first-place finish. Reider is the lone PSAC thrower of the 33 qualifiers. The top qualifying throw of 24.34 meters was recorded by Ashland's Kibwe Johnson.
