Red Raiders in First Place After First Day at PSAC Indoor Championships

EAST STROUDSBURG, Pa. - With 55.5 points, the Shippensburg University men’s track and field team is in the lead after the first day of competition at the 2008 PSAC Indoor Track and Field Championships being hosted by East Stroudsburg at Koehler Fieldhouse.
The Red Raiders lead Slippery Rock by five points through seven events with East Stroudsburg, Kutztown and Lock Haven rounding out the top-five.
The Red Raiders dominated the long jump as senior Jamal James (Harrisburg/Central Dauphin) won the event with a leap of 23’ 5 1/4” and junior Sean Cohick (Shippensburg/Big Spring) took fifth with a jump of 22’ 2 1/4”.
The men’s distance medley relay team of sophomore Jeremy Brady (Heidelberg AFB/Heidelberg American), sophomore Corey Creek (New Cumberland/Cedar Cliff), freshman Sam Storino (Hatboro/Hatboro-Horsham) and sophomore Josh Neyhart (Kutztown/Kutztown) finished third with a time of 10:31.66.
The 4x800-meter relay team of freshman Ryan Boyer (Shamokin/Southern Columbia), freshman Matt Gelety (Pasadena, Md./Chesapeake), junior Stephen Thompson (Northumberland/Shikellamy) and senior Eric Baker (Montoursville/Montoursville) finished fourth with a time of 7:56.40.
Sophomore Don Graybill (Ephrata/Cocalico) finished second in the pentathlon with 3,389 points and also tied for sixth in the pole vault finals. Freshman Everett Chapman (Chambersburg/Chambersburg) took seventh in the event and senior Jim Dubinski (Collegeville/St. Pius X) earned 11th place.
Additionally, junior Shaun Minnich (Churchville/Council Rock South) finished third in the weight throw with a toss of 55’ 10 1/2”.
The final day of competition from Koehler Fieldhouse on Sunday begins at 11 a.m.
