Barbour Wins Triple Jump, James Takes Second in 200 Meters at Kent State Tune Up

KENT, Ohio - Senior Maurice Barbour (Chambersburg/Chambersburg) won the triple jump while senior Jamal James (Harrisburg/Central Dauphin) recorded the fastest time in the PSAC this season in the 200-meter dash to highlight the Shippensburg men's indoor track team at the 2008 Kent State Tune Up on Saturday afternoon.

James finished second in the 200-meter dash with a time of 21.97 seconds that surpasses Cyrus Wesley's time by 12-hundredths of a second for top marks in the PSAC this season. Junior James Wilson (Ephrata/Ephrata) placed sixth in the event with a time of 22.39 seconds.

In addition to Barbour's leap of 44-feet, 8.25 inches, red-shirt freshman Jesse Brown (Philadelphia/Girard College) finished fifth with a triple jump of 43-feet 2.5 inches.

Several Red Raiders improved upon their previous season-best performances to improve their seeding for next weekend's PSAC Championships.

In the pole vault, sophomore Don Graybill (Ephrata/Cocalico) placed seventh with a vault of 15-feet, three inches that ranks as the fourth best effort in the PSAC this season. Junior Shaun Minnich (Churchville/Council Rock South) recorded a shot put of 52-feet, 8-inches is the third farthest in the conference this season.

Sophomore Josh Neyhart (Kutztown/Kutztown) ran the mile in 4:15.20 for a fourth-place finish and his fastest effort of the season now ranks him fifth in the PSAC.

Other top finishers for Shippensburg include junior Mike Murphy (Reamstown/Cocalico), who placed third with a time of 40.15 seconds, and junior Joe Wagner (Biglerville/Biglerville), whose fastest 400-meter dash of the season earned him seventh place in 49.94 seconds.

Junior Sean Cohick (Shippensburg/Big Spring) finished fifth in the long jump with a jump of 21-feet, 5.5 inches while sophomore Steve Gualberti (Springfield/Springfield) and red-shirt freshman Leander Toney (Lancaster/J.P. McCaskey) tied for fourth place in the high jump with leaps of 6-feet, 4-inches.

Next weekend, Shippensburg will travel to East Stroudsburg for the 2008 PSAC Indoor Track and Field Championships. The two-day event begins Saturday from Koehler Fieldhouse.
