James, Wilson, Richards and Helfrick Winners at Susquehanna Open

Susquehnna, Pa. - On Friday, Feb. 17, the Shippensburg men's and women's track teams traveled to compete at the Susquehanna Open. Four Shippensburg men captured first place in their respective events on the evening.
For the men, Shippensburg sophomore Jamal
James (Harrisburg, Pa./Central Dauphin) took first in the 55 meter dash, clocking in a 6.47 seconds, an
improvement over his third-place time the day before. Freshman James
Wilson (Ephrata, Pa./Ephrata) tied for first in the 200 meter dash, placing with
a time of 23.09, and sophomore Maurice Barbour (Chambersburg, Pa./Chambersburg) tied for fourth with a time of 23.12. Sophomore Eric
Baker (Montoursville, Pa./Montoursville) placed second in the 400 meters at 50.98 seconds, and
junior Devon McKenzie (Philipsburg, NJ/Philipsburg) finished immediately
behind him with a time of 51.91.
Junior Bernie Richards (York Haven, Pa./Northeastern
York) won the 55 meter hurdles with a time of 7.75 in the race.
In the distance area, junior Allen Hanslovan (Morrisdale, Pa./West
Branch) and freshman Jon Hughes (Malvern, Pa./Great Valley) placed second and third,
respectively, in the mile, with times of 4:23.01 and 4:24.32 in the event.
Senior Kenrick Marsh (Norristown, Pa./Norristown) finished second in the
800 meters with a time of 1:58.92 to improve upon his PSAC-qualifying time
at the PSAC East Championships. In the 3,000 meter race, senior Dan
Helfrick (Greencastle, Pa./James Buchanan) finished first with a time of 8:41.87,
senior Matt Werner
(Lancaster,
Pa./Conestoga Valley) finished third, and freshman Dillon
Gracey (Mercersburg, Pa./James Buchanan) placed fifth.
In the relays, Shippensburg’s 4x200 team finished first with a time
of 1:30.86, as did the 4x800 team, who won their race with a time of 8:14.57.
The 4x400 team finished second, clocking in at 3:27.27. Sophomore Troy
Litten (Gettysburg, Pa./Gettysburg) finished second in the pole vault, while junior
Nate Reider (York, Pa./Dallastown) captured first in the men’s weight
throw, sophomore Mark Anderson (Nanty Glo, Pa./Central Cambria) taking third
in that event.
Both the men and women will compete in the PSAC Indoor Championships next
Saturday, February 25, 2006 at East Stroudbsburg University.
