Red Raider Indoor Track Records 14 Top-Five Finishes at Susquehanna Open

SELINSGROVE, Pa. - The Shippensburg University men’s indoor track and field team recorded 14 top-five finishes to highlight a strong showing Saturday evening at the Susquehanna Open held inside Garrett Sports Complex.
The lone first-place finish for the Red Raiders came in the distance medley relay, as the four-man squad of junior Dillon Gracey (Mercersburg/James Buchanan), freshman Jake Sitler (Wrightsville/York Catholic), sophomore Corey Creek (New Cumberland/Cedar Cliff) and freshman Sam Storino (Hatboro/Hatboro-Horsham), finished first in 10:37.00.
The 4x800-meter relay squad finished second with a time of 8:11.48 and achieved a national qualifying time.
Of the multiple placewinners, sophomore Don Graybill (Ephrata/Cocalico) tied for second in the high jump with a leap of 6'4". Graybill also tied for fourth place in the pole vault with a vault of 14-feet, 5.25 inches.
Meanwhile, sophomore Steve Gualberti (Springfield/Springfield) took second place in the triple jump with a leap of 43-feet, 2.25 inches while tying for fifth place in the high jump with a jump of 6'2".
In the 800-meter run, sophomore Josh Neyhart (Kutztown/Kutztown) and senior Eric Baker (Montoursville/Montoursville) brought home second and third place with times of 1:56.56 and 1:57.51 respectively.
In the 400-meter dash, junior Joe Wagner (Biglerville/Biglerville) took third place in 51.41 seconds while freshman Brad Bechtal (Reading/Schuylkill Valley) finished just 0.43 seconds behind in fourth place.
In the 3,000-meter run, two freshmen place within the top five. Freshman Matt Gelety (Pasadena, Md./Chesapeake) took third place with a time of 8:50.97, while fellow freshman Sean Stetler (Warrington/Central Bucks South) finished fourth in 8:51.00.
Other strong finishers for Shippensburg included freshman Tyler Real (York/West York), who finished fourth in the 55-meter hurdles in 8.05 seconds, and junior Stephen Thompson (Northumberland/Shikellamy), who finished fifth in the 5,000-meter run with a time of 15:56.86.
Shippensburg will compete in one more event before the PSAC Indoor Championships begin March 1 in East Stroudsburg. Next weekend, the Red Raiders will travel to Ohio to compete in the Kent State Tune Up.
