Feb. 9, 2008
LEWISBURG, Pa. - Senior Jamal James (Harrisburg/Central Dauphin) and junior Joe Wagner (Biglerville/Biglerville) each delivered two first-place finishes on Saturday afternoon to highlight the Shippensburg men’s indoor track and field teams at the Bucknell Winter Classic. Seven Red Raiders recorded top-five finishes.
James recorded an NCAA provisional mark with his leap of 23-feet 9-inches, the best in the PSAC and the fifth-best mark in the nation. Junior Sean Cohick (Shippensburg/Big Spring), finished second in the event yet recorded his season-best effort in the event with a jump of 23-1.75, the third-best mark in the PSAC this season.
Wagner won the 400-meter dash with a season-best time of 50.78 seconds, while teaming with James, freshman Brad Bechtal (Reading/Schuylkill Valley) and senior Eric Baker (Montoursville/Montoursville) to win the 1,600-meter relay with a season-best time of 3:24.13, beating Bucknell by 0.75 seconds.
In the throwing events, junior Shaun Minnich (Churchville/Council Rock South) recorded a second-place finish in the shot put and took third place in the weight throw. Minnich’s weight throw of 53-3.5 fell just short of his season-best performance back in November, while the shot put of 50-0.75 was two feet behind Bucknell’s Timothy Medlock for first place.
Sophomore Josh Neyhart (Kutztown/Kutztown) finished fourth in the 1-mile run with a time of 4:19.65, while junior Dillon Gracey (Mercersburg/James Buchanan) finished sixth with a time of 4:22.92.
Meanwhile, freshman Tyler Real (York/West York) earned fifth-place in the 55-meter hurdles with a time of 8.15 seconds.
Shippensburg will return to action next Saturday in Selinsgrove when the Red Raiders compete in the Susquehanna Open from Susquehanna University.
