EAST STROUDSBURG, Pa. - Shippensburg men's track and field junior Mark Anderson (Nanty Glo/Central Cambria) set a new school record while provisionally qualifying for the NCAA Track and Field Championships in March with a mark of 53-feet, 7 1/4-inches in the shot put at the seventh annual Dick DeSchriver Invitational hosted by East Stroudsburg University.
Anderson's first-place throw broke the previous school record held by Adam Escamilla with a throw of 53-feet, 3 1/2-inches in 2004. Anderson's mark is also tops in the PSAC this season and the 12th-best in Division II.
Senior David Green (Waynesboro/Southwestern) and sophomore Shaun Minnich (Churchville/Council Rock South) finished third and fourth, respectively.
Anderson also had a strong showing in the weight throw with a mark of 51-feet, 7 1/4-inches, finishing second behind Bryce Buffaloe of Temple to lead five Shippensburg throwers who placed in the top-14. Green was fourth with a throw of 51-feet, 1 1/2-inches as he was one of just four throwers to eclipse 50-feet.
Junior Justin Ackerman (Broomal/Marple-Newtown) was finished in fifth-place while Minnich and freshman Justin Kraft (Greentown/Wallenpaupack) placed 11th and 14th, respectively.
Anderson, Green and Ackerman all posted marks that currently ranked second, third and fourth in the conference this season.
The other winner for Shippensburg was senior Allen Hanslovan (Morrisdale/West Branch) who won the mile run by a margin of four seconds with a time of 4:22.64 which is the sixth-best performance in the PSAC.
Other notable finishes for the Red Raiders came from freshman Allen Lehman (Greencastle/Greencastle) and Nick Malenka (Orwigsburg/Blue Mountain). Lehman placed second in the triple jump with a leap of 43-feet, 10-inches after finishing 13th in the long jump. Meanwhile, Malenka was third in the pole vault with a mark of 13-feet, 6-inches.
