NEW YORK, N.Y. - The Shippensburg University men's and women's indoor track and field teams competed at the Sixth Annual New Balance Collegiate Invitational on Friday with the teams' performances highlighted by freshman Christine Kihm (Quakertown, Pa./Quakertown) and sophomore Troy Litten (Gettysburg, Pa./Gettysburg) in the men's and women's pole vault.

Kihm, who broke the school record in the pole vault with a leap of 11-feet, 3-inches at the DuCharme Invitational on December 9, placed in a four-way tie for third in the event on Friday with a mark of 11-feet, 3 3/4-inches, just edging her previous school record. Her new mark ties her for the top performance in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) this season.

Kihm was the only NCAA Division II competitor in her event and ended up tying athletes from Brown University, the University of Maryland and Princeton University.

Meanwhile, Litten had a mark of 14-feet, 3 1/4-inches to place in a three-way tie for ninth with Michael Reynolds and David Parker, each from the University of Albany. Litten's season and career-best is 14-feet, 9-inches which he set on January 21 at the Terrapin Invitational.

In the men's long jump, junior Carl Dean (Norristown, Pa./Norristown) placed in the top-30 with a leap of 21-feet, 4-inches, just over a foot less than his season-best set at the Terrapin Invitational.

Senior Lindsey Govern (Mechanicsburg, Pa./Cumberland Valley) had a nice showing in the women's 3,000 meter run as she finished 35th in a time of 10:46.35, which is the fastest time on the team so far this season by almost 10 seconds. It is the first time that Govern has competed in the event this year after qualifying for the NCAA Division II Cross Country Championships in November.
