Baseball Announces Dates For Alumni Game, Fall World Series

SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. - The Shippensburg University baseball team is currently seeking alumni interested in playing the Alumni Game, which has been scheduled for Saturday, October 20 at 10:00 AM from Fairchild Field. Any interested alumni should e-mail Head Coach Matt Jones at msjones@ship.edu or call the baseball office at 717-477-1508 to confirm their interest.

Following the Alumni game, a tailgate will be held for alumni and parents that will lead up the Shippensburg football game at 1:00 PM that afternoon against Slippery Rock.

Also, family, friends and alumni are invited to come out and watch play in the Fall World Series: the annual off-season competition among the Red Raider baseball team.

Here is the schedule of games for the Fall World Series:

Saturday, Oct. 13 – 11:00 AM
Sunday, Oct. 14 – 11:00 AM
Thursday, Oct. 18– 3:30 PM
Sunday, Oct. 21 – 11:00 AM
Tuesday, Oct. 23– 3:30 PM

On Friday, October 12, major-league scouts will be in attendance at 3:00 PM to assess the Red Raiders.

Jones returns for his second season at Shippensburg and is the 13th head coach in the team's history. He preserved the school’s rich tradition in his first season by leading the team to its 14th PSAC Championship since 1971. The Red Raiders have made 23 PSAC Tournament appearances and have 19 NCAA Regional appearances to their credit.

Shippensburg finished with a 28-24 overall en route to the its first PSAC championship since 2003, and also its first NCAA North Atlantic Region Championship appearance since 2004.

Among the many returners for Shippensburg include junior Matt Wright (McClure/Mid-West) who was named North Atlantic Region Pitcher of the Year from the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) in addition to being selected as the PSAC Western Division Pitcher of the Year.

Senior Justin Garber (Elizabethtown/Elizabethtown) and junior Tyler Redick (Fairfield/Walkersville (Md.)) were also selected to the North Atlantic Region squad and are among the crop of veterans back for another season of Shippensburg baseball.
