May 21, 2007

SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. - Shippensburg baseball junior Justin Garber (Elizabethtown/Elizabethtown) and sophomore Matt Wright (McClure/Mid-West) were both named to the Amercian Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA)/Rawlings All-North Atlantic Region First Team as voted on by the region's coaches.

Garber, who was also selected to the inaugural Daktronics, Inc., All-North Atlantic Region First Team, earned his third career all-region honor. He finished the season with a team-best .358 batting average while leading the team with 24 stolen bases and 41 RBIs. It is the second-straight season that Garber was selected to the ABCA/Rawlings All-North Atlantic Region First Team.

For Wright, it is his second appearance on the first team in as many seasons. Like Garber, he was a Daktronics, Inc., All-North Atlantic Region First Team selection after earning All-PSAC Western Division First Team honors and being named PSAC Western Division Pitcher of the Year.

Wright led the PSAC with 99 strikeouts, a total that is the third-highest single-season mark in Shippensburg history, trailing only Evan Englebrook (113) and Randy Dicken (104), who both set the mark in 2004 and are currently pitching in the minor leagues.

Wright posted a 6-3 record with one save and a 2.08 ERA. In 11 starts, he totaled 78.0 innings pitched and six complete games.

Each member of the first team will be eligible for all-american consideration which will be selected on Sunday, May 27 in Montgomery, Alabama in conjunction with the Division II national championship tournament.

As a team, Shippensburg (28-24) won the PSAC championship for the first time since 2003 and made its first NCAA regional appearance since 2004 under first-year Head Coach Matt Jones.
