Red Raider Baseball Doubleheader at Mansfield Postponed Due to Field Conditions

Mar. 25, 2007

SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. - For the fifth time this week, the Shippensburg baseball team has had a game postponed with the latest cancellation coming Sunday with a doubleheader at Mansfield being postponed because of wet field conditions. There has been no scheduled make-up at the present time.

Saturday's cancellation brings the total of Red Raider games cancelled as a result of weather-related issues to 10, including eight in the past nine days. Of those 10 cancellations, all but three of those games were scheduled to be played at Shippensburg's Fairchild Field as the team is still waiting to play in its home opener.

The Red Raiders were originally scheduled to make their 2007 home debut in a nine-inning game on Saturday, March 3 versus East Stroudsburg.

Over the last nine days, Shippensburg has had a total of eight games with Bloomsburg, Columbia Union, West Chester and Mansfield all postponed. Only three of those, a home doubleheader with Columbia Union and a nine-inning contest at West Chester rescheduled. The Red Raiders will travel to West Chester next Wednesday, March 28 at 3:30 p.m., while Columbia Union will visit Fairchild Field on Monday, April 9.

Shippensburg is next scheduled to host a doubleheader with Millersville on Tuesday, March 27
beginning at 1:00 p.m. Barring any more weather mandated scheduling changes, those two contests will be the first opportunity for Red Raider fans to see their team, led by first-year head coach Matt Jones, in action at home and it will be the team's first action since a 4-3 victory over St. Leo on March 12.

The Red Raiders have won their last two-straight games with a win at St. Leo and a 9-5 win at No. 2-ranked Tampa on March 10.
