McClintock Leads Ship Baseball to Split With Millersville

SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. - Jose Rosado's RBI-double in the top of the seventh of game two gave the Millersville University baseball team a doubleheader split with Shippensburg University on Saturday afternoon at Fairchild Field. Shippensburg won game one, 7-0, before dropping game two, 4-3.

Shippensburg (11-10), who trailed 3-0 after four innings in game two, tied the game with two runs in the fifth and one in the bottom of the sixth. Junior Jeremy Hess (Lancaster, Pa./Lampeter-Strasburg) singled home junior Nick Erdman (Leola, Pa./Conestoga Valley) in the sixth to tie the game at 3-3 after Erdman advanced to second on a wild pitch.

With one out and the score tied in the sixth, the Red Raiders tried to take the lead on a pop-up to first base in foul territory, but Hess was tagged out at home on a relay from Tim Bianchi to Jon Kremser. Hess was 3-for-3 in the second game with one RBI and a run scored.

In the bottom of the fifth, Hess led off with a single to right, stole second and advanced to third on a throwing error by the catcher on the steal. Sophomore Jamie Mengle (Mechanicsburg, Pa./Cumberland Valley) then followed with a two-run homer to left for his only hit of the game, cutting the Millersville lead to one, 3-2.

Millersville (3-9) scored two runs in the first inning of game two, the first on a passed ball and the second on a RBI-ground out by Jamie Haas. The Marauders added another run in the third to take a 3-0 lead after Shawn Clark scored on a fielding error.

In the first game, Red Raider senior Lee McClintock (Carlisle, Pa./Carlisle) pitched his third complete game of the season in earning his first shutout. He surrendered just three hits in seven innings and did not allow a walk while striking out 10, evening his record at 2-2 this year.

The victory was third shutout victory for Shippensburg this year and the second in as many days after sophomore Frank D'Agostino (Pine Grove, Pa./Pine Grove) pitched six scoreless innings on Friday in a 7-0 victory against Bryant University.

Leading 2-0 in the fourth, the Red Raiders (11-10) scored four more runs, highlighted a two-RBI single to center field by junior Eric Perlozzo (Cumberland, Md./Bishop Walsh) that scored senior Chad Stecker (Saylorsburg, Pa./Saylorsburg) and senior Ryan Miscik (Mt. Pleasant, Pa./Mt. Pleasant). Perlozzo went 3-for-4 with three RBI.

Shippensburg returns to action on Sunday, hosting Bryant in a doubleheader that begins at 12:30 p.m.
