Shippensburg Baseball Drops Second-Straight, 1-0
SAINT LEO, Fla. - Senior Lee McClintock (Carlisle, Pa./Carlisle) pitched
a complete game on Tuesday evening, but it was enough as the Shippensburg
University baseball team was defeated by Saint Leo University, 1-0, at Southard
Stadium. Jesse Wilson also threw a complete game for the Lions.
The 13th-ranked Red Raiders (9-5), who had won their last three consecutive
one-run games, are now 4-2 this season in games decided by one run.
McClintock went eight innings, allowing only one run and five hits while
striking out three, but Shippensburg totaled just six hits and stranded eight
runners on base. Meanwhile, Wilson held the Red Raiders scoreless in picking
up the first complete game of his three-year career, striking out seven.
The game remained scoreless through 5 1/2 innings until Saint Leo's
Chris Germano singled up the middle and stole second. With only one out Rhett
Teller roped a single into left field and Germano managed to beat the throw
home, scoring what proved to be the game-winning run. Germano went 3-for-4
and was the only player from either team to have more than one hit in the
game.
Saint Leo (11-9) won its seventh-straight and its second consecutive game
by shutout following Monday's 9-0 win against Concordia College (N.Y.).
Junior Nick Erdman (Leola, Pa./Conestoga Valley) went 1-for-1 with three
walks for Shippensburg and sophomore Scott Goss (Johnstown, Pa./Westmont
Hilltop) was 1-for-3 with a walk. Six different players had one hit each
for the Red Raiders.
Both teams face each other again tomorrow night at Southard Stadium at 7:00
p.m.
