Erdman Goes 3-for-4 in Baseball's Win at Eckerd Wednesday

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. - Junior Nick Erdman (Leola, Pa./Conestoga Valley) had a double and scored two runs as the Shippensburg University baseball team opened up its Spring Break schedule with a 6-3 victory at Eckerd College in St. Petersburg, Florida on Wednesday night at Turley Field.
 
The Red Raiders (7-2), who entered the game ranked No. 8 in the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) Division II Top-25 Poll, improved to 7-2 this season and have now won four-straight.
 
With Eckerd (5-12) leading 3-1 in the top of the eighth, Shippensburg began its comeback, scoring four runs in the inning to take a 5-3 lead.  Erdman, sophomore Scott Goss (Johnstown, Pa./Westmont Hilltop), junior Tyler Wise (Bedford, Pa./Bedford) and junior Jared Boger (Lebanon, Pa./Cedar Crest) all scored for the Red Raiders.
 
Sophomore Brian Boylan (Tannersville, Pa./Pocono Mountain) pitched the three final innings for Shippensburg to earn his first win. He allowed just two hits and retired nine of the 12 batters he faced. Senior Lee McClintock (Carlisle, Pa./Carlisle) made his third start of the year, striking out four in six innings, but did not factor in the decision.
 
Goss and junior Brad Berner (Media, Pa./Penncrest) each had two hits and a RBI while for the Red Raiders while Boger walked four times and scored two runs.
 
Eckerd scored two runs in the second inning to take a 3-1 lead after Sean Riley and Jason Recore each scored for the Tritons after singles. Thomas Stroup held Shippensburg to just one run through six innings, finishing with five strikeouts before Pat Feehan suffered his first loss of the season pitching the final two innings, allowing five runs, only two of which were earned.
 
Shippensburg and Eckerd return to action on Thursday night for the second of a four-game series at 7:00 p.m.
