Shippensburg Baseball Earns First Win of Season, Splits Doubleheader With Anderson (S.C.)

ANDERSON, S.C. - The Shippensburg baseball team won its first game of the young season on Saturday afternoon but split a non-conference doubleheader with the Anderson College Trojans at Anderson Memorial Stadium.
The Red Raiders (1-5) raced out to a 3-0 lead in game one of the doubleheader and maintained that lead through the sixth inning, when the Trojans scored four runs with two outs to complete their rally and earn a 4-3 victory.
Junior Matt Wright (McClure/Mid-West) totaled 10 strikeouts in the first game, while senior Justin Garber (Elizabethtown/Elizabethtown) and junior Tyler Redick (Fairfield/Walkersville (Md.)) each delivered two hits.
In the nightcap, Anderson (4-13) committed seven errors that led to 10 unearned runs as the Red Raiders won 14-4. Shippensburg scored four runs in the second and six in the third inning to take a 10-1 lead.
Garber and Redick once again had two hits to total four over the two games, while sophomore Kevin Scholly (State College/State College) and freshman Kevin Miller (Kenvil, N.J./Roxbury) also had two hits a-piece in game two.
Miller laced an RBI-double in the third inning, while freshman Kris Kullman (Hummelstown/Lower Dauphin) smacked a two-run double in the second inning.
Garber delivered a two-run double in the sixth that was the lone hit of a four-run inning for the Red Raiders.
Junior Tim Freshour (Johnstown/Richland) earned a complete-game victory and recorded five strikeouts to earn the victory.
Shippensburg will complete the three-game series with the Trojans tomorrow with a single game from Anderson Memorial Stadium that begins at 1 p.m.
