Baseball Falls In 10 Innings to Wingate
WINGATE, N.C. - The Shippensburg University baseball team
fell in extra innings to Wingate University on Friday afternoon, 3-2.
Down 2-0 in the seventh inning, the Red Raiders (3-2) came back to tie the
game at 2-2.
Junior Eric Perlozzo (Cumberland, Md./Bishop Walsh) led
off the seventh inning with a triple, and he scored on junior Nick
Erdman's (Leola, Pa./Conestoga
Valley) sacrifice fly.
Shippensburg tied the game in the top of the ninth. Senior Chad
Stecker (Saylorsburg, Pa./Pleasant Valley) reached base when
he was hit by a pitch, and Perlozzo's sacrifice bunt moved him to second.
He scored
when Erdman singled to left
field for his second RBI of the game.
In the bottom of the tenth inning, Wingate (3-8) loaded the bases with two
hit batters and a walk. Wingate's Jon Svanda hit a sacrifice fly to
right field to score the winning run for the Bulldogs.
Sophomore Nathan Jones (Lititz, Pa./Warwick) recorded the loss for Shippensburg
after pitching two innings in relief. Sophomore Ross Buckwalter (Ephrata,
Pa./Ephrata) got the start, giving up two runs on five hits. Sophomore Stephen
Slatcoff (Windber, Pa./Windber) struck out four in four innings of relief.
Matt Trent was the winning pitcher for Wingate.
Shippensburg will play Wingate again tomorrow, February 19. First pitch is
scheduled for Noon.
