Shippensburg's Wright Named Collegiate Baseball Pre-Season All-American

SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. - After finishing the 2006 season as the PSAC Western Division Rookie of the Year, Shippensburg baseball sophomore pitcher Matt Wright (McClure/Mid-West) has been selected a pre-season All-American by Collegiate Baseball magazine. Also, Senior second baseman Eric Perlozzo (Cumberland, Md./Bishop Walsh) was listed as a "Player to Watch."

Wright, who earned All-PSAC West and All-region selections following his freshman season, was listed among the top pitchers in Division II. He and Kutztown seniors Mike McCardell and Matt Keller were the only pitchers from the PSAC to be honored.

Wright turned in a stellar 2006 season. He tied for second in the PSAC in victories (7-1 record) and opponent batting average (.198). In 68 innings of work, he posted a 1.99 ERA and averaged 10.99 strikeouts per nine innings. Wright also posted a 5-0 record with four complete games against the PSAC Western Division.

Perlozzo is looking to finish his career strong after missing most of the 2006 season with hand injury. The fifth-year senior was limited to just five games last year, but in 2005, he hit .283, swiped 22 bases earned All-PSAC Western Division Second Team honors.

Shippensburg returns 23 players from the 2006 team that posted a 31-24 record and reached the PSAC playoffs for a fourth-straight season. Matt Jones took over as head coach in the off-season after winning 148 games and three conference championships in seven seasons at Elizabethtown College.

The Red Raiders, who also received four votes in the publication's Division II top-40, open their season at West Georgia on February 10.
